Week 11: Burn Baby, Burn!

We didn't start the fire. . . Billy Joel took the words right out of my mouth! Something of interest to us lately has been the rash of fires in the Heights area of Houston. An arsonist is on the loose and continues to burn houses. The most recent was last week and about 4 blocks from our home--scary! Only old, abandoned houses have been targeted so far. We feel a little bit safer, looking at the homes directly around us. This has to be stopped before someone gets hurt!

You can catch a glimpse of the destruction in these two photos. We'll post more later. Since I procrastinated getting my photo ready, I have the pleasure of blogging. I won with the eggplant family. I thought they were so cute and loved that the poor things were labeled with "$1.00". Last week was a close race, neck-to-neck the entire time. Made it much more exciting for us! I think that could be why Conor's nails got so short. Vote for your favorite photo and post a comment as to why you like it. Choose Door or Caution Tape.

Farmer's Market Fun

Despite our disillusionment of what the Farmer's Market in Houston was about, we still had a great time taking photos. We got a lot of dirty looks and questioning stares. Some people I asked before shooting photographs in their booth because I felt the hard stare was almost demanding money for their "prize" fruits or vegetables. I also couldn't help myself with the orchids and beautiful flowers and wanted to buy them all to hang outside my windows so I would have an amazing view. That thought quickly dissipated as I saw the price tag; but the gentleman was more than happy to answer our questions about orchids and how to care for them and let us take photos. We're tempted to go back and purchase some honeycomb, too. But we're enjoying our honey bear for now. :) These were some of my favorites from the market. Makes me want to go out again this weekend!

Week 10: Farmer's Market

A few things to point out. First, I have enjoyed my last couple of weeks off from blogging project 52. Second, we are 19.23% finished with project 52. Third, Dayna blew me out of the water last week, but she got to use the model after I got him good and warmed up.

Well, we headed to a couple of Farmer's Markets today. We just wanted to more or less try them out. But, we ended up buying some awesome food (we will probably smell of garlic for many more days). And here are some pics we were able to take. Mainly vegetables, so it shouldn't make you too hungry.

Week 9: Monkey See Monkey Do

This is the first time we've had a tie in our little contest, Project 52. I can't say we were expecting that! It proves we truly are equal partners! So, how is it that I got stuck with doing the blog entry once again?! Because: (a) you all love what I have to say, (b) Conor went to bed early and nothing had been done with the blog, (c) I am a saint, or (d) all of the above? I will give you a hint: What is the first letter of my name? That's right--I am back by popular demand and currently the better half of the "equal" partnership--we all know women are saints!

Conor decided this week's shoot would be of monkeys and we could choose any monkey in the house. There are only about 80 of them and we both happened to choose the same one! Neither one of us was willing to give up the monkey, so here you have it! His title was I'm Blue Without Dayna Sue. Since I am the author, Monkey See Monkey Do won hands down. Obviously the subject is the same, so comments as to why you like one photo over the other is very helpful for feedback. Thanks!!! Choose Shadow or Straight On and vote for Week 9.

Jennifer & Mike

Lets face it, you can never go wrong with Hermann Park! Such a stunning and beautiful backdrop for Jennifer and Mike's engagement photos. The last day of August, we lucked out with fairly decent weather (for Houston) and some nice cloud cover that shielded us from the heat of the sun. I was rejoicing, although still sweating. . . We even managed to crack a smile or two out of Mike--so it was a successful day all around!!!

Week 8: The Buzz

So, we took a little vacation last week. Not physically, but mentally!!! I received a lovely e-mail from a dear friend and faithful follower of our blog last Sunday evening with several inquisitions about our Week 8 post for Project 52. Conor and I realized we had failed to shoot anything for our project and would have to postpone it another week. We dare not cheat all of you out of a week, and risking turning this into "Project 51". It just doesn't have the same ring as Project 52 and the ramifications would be too high. We did have several photo shoots that week plus the bridal show last weekend. Those are the best excuses I could come up with! But we are back on track!

Conor kicked my butt (with my sexy shoes) for Week 7, winning with 80%. Free quarters to all of you voting for my gumball machine! He had a killer shot, even if my shoes weren't really all that sexy.

We purchased a new baby last week, the Alien Bee! It's bright yellow and black, and can output a lot more light than our flashes. Took a roadtrip out west on Friday and tested it out. So, that's what all the buzz is about this week. Vote now for the photo of Conor or Dayna!!!
